In the spring of 2019 when I was only 17 years old, I travelled alone to Kathmandu and then trekked on to Everest Base Camp. I was immediately intoxicated with the grandeur of the Himalayas and the mystery and spirituality of the Sherpa people. My goal on this expedition was to understand why people wanted to take such extreme risks to climb mountains. Even today, I am no closer to a universal answer. However, the inquiry has granted me greater experiences and understandings than I could have ever dreamed.
